THE STORY OF THE MISSING THIRD DIRECT HITS ALBUM

"The picture shown here ended up as the cover for the 'The Modesty Blaise Sessions 12' single, released on our own "Forbidden' Label. However, it was originally going to be the cover of our third album 'Up in The Magic Attic' (Later shortened to "The Magic Attic" for the 1994 Tangerine Records compilation).
The album was to have a had a theme running through it, which was an imaginary attic of each of our favourite toys, instruments, old toys, books, influences, our record releases to date etc. It's the only picture of my suede grey Chelsea boots, bought a few days before this photo shoot in Shelly's of Carnaby Street, which I tried to clean with suede cleaner after a few days, and promptly ruined them.
The third official Direct Hits album was never finished of course, but we did record some songs for it which eventually surfaced on our last 12' E.P. "Snakes and Ladders" This is the origin of 'Game / Toy related' songs like: 'Snakes and Ladders', 'Toy Soldier' 'The Game' and a couple of unreleased tracks like "Stories from my Uncle Jack' (Later renamed as 'My Uncle Jack' and recorded by This Happy Breed' and a song called 'You're my Doll'....very weird! There were a few others which I'm currently trying to find either cassette demos of, or rough rehearsal versions.
